About Me

Hi, my name is Patrick Gallagher and welcome to Patrick Counseling.

I have always been curious about life in general and people in particular. ‘Who am I, what makes me tick, why do I do the things I do, feel the way I feel and how can I develop?’ Questions such as these led me to firstly explore the outer world – traveling to America, Canada and several of the European countries.  The experience of different cultures brought home to me the importance of context in determining our behaviors and beliefs. I then settled in Britain and began a more interior exploration, studying and working in the fields of Psychology and Psychotherapy. I was also drawn to Eastern philosophies, practicing yoga, t’ai chi Ch’uan and meditation.

Out of this mix I have come to settle on a few basic beliefs

‘Life is a process, always changing’

‘The more resources you have the better you cope with the change’

‘The more you give, the more you get’

‘Questions continue to be more important than answers’

I hope this site reflects these principles and provides resources for people, who like me, seek to develop their awareness of themselves and others. I want to share my ideas and the ideas of others who inform and equip me for life’s journey. I also offer the resource of my skills and experience as a therapist, supervisor and trainer.

So please feel free to browse my website and I would be delighted to hear from you if you need any of the resources available here. Also if you have any questions or observations.

I specialize in working with the effects of trauma, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, using Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR). This is a therapy that, to date, has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress.
Click here for more information on EMDR

I also offer Person-Centred Counselling/Psychotherapy (PCT) which offers a relationship that is sufficiently accepting and supportive to allow you, the client, to freely express painful emotions and feelings. You then become clearer about who you are, what you want from your life and how you achieve it.
Learn more about PCT here.

I am married with three children, aged from 20 years to a lively 11-year-old. I enjoy walking in nature, being active and relaxing with my family and friends.
