Anxiety and Panic Disorders

Anxiety and panic disorders can cause constant worry, the inability to relax and constant feelings of dread and being overwhelmed. While anxiety and panic disorders are quite common, the physical and emotional symptoms of these mental health problems aren’t widely understood. Thus many people either don’t realise they are suffering from anxiety or they try to hide or minimise it because they see it as a weakness and fear judgement.

I’ve outlined below a list of the most common symptoms of anxiety and panic disorders in order to help people identify and deal better with these conditions.

Physical Symptoms

  • Headaches
  • Muscle Pain
  • Teeth Grinding
  • Nosebleeds
  • Trouble Sleeping and  Recurring Fatigue
  • Change of Eating Habits combined with Sugar Cravings

Emotional Symptoms

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Butterflies in the belly
  • Mood Swings
  • Lack of Focus or Difficulty Focusing
  • Need for Excessive Reassurance
  • Disappearing – Anxiety can make people feel they want to escape or run away.

While there is no quick fix for an anxiety disorder, the adoption of a healthy and balanced lifestyle will help keep symptoms at bay. Practising meditation and attending yoga classes are particularly helpful.

If you need further support, interpersonal psychotherapy has also been shown to be effective at overcoming the more debilitating effects of anxiety.
