Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get in touch with you?

Your first contact with me will be by email. I respond to all email correspondence within 24 hours. You can either set up an initial appointment to discuss what you need or you can simply contact me to get further information. All face to face counselling is done in Edinburgh.

How soon can you see me?

I can see you within a week, and sooner if you are available during the day. I am available days and evenings.

What happens at the first appointment?

The first appointment will be an opportunity to discuss what kind of service would be appropriate to your needs and therefore it is without obligation on either side. Practical considerations such as time, place, cost and duration of meetings will be decided, and you should feel free to ask questions about my professional background.

How confidential is the service?

Respecting client confidentiality is a fundamental requirement for keeping trust. All that takes place between us is treated with respect and discretion and agreement is usually made during this first session about confidentiality. If exceptional circumstances arise, your consent will be sought for a change in this agreement.

How long does treatment take and can I stop when I want?

By the end of the first appointment, you should be able to decide if you wish to work with me. There is no need to commit yourself to a long-term contract unless you are satisfied that this is what you want. We will arrange a regular review of sessions to evaluate your progress and, if necessary, renegotiate the contract.

EMDR can be brief-focused treatment or part of a longer psychotherapy programme according to the range and depth of the trauma experiences. I will obtain a careful, detailed client history to assess the suitability of clients for EMDR treatment and to negotiate an appropriate time frame for treatment. EMDR sessions can be for 60 to 90 minutes.

Person-Centred Therapy can vary from a few sessions to more extended work depending on client need. Individual sessions usually last one hour and are held weekly.

How much does the therapy cost?

Trauma Treatment and Person-Centred Therapy costs £80 for an hour's session.
Email Counselling costs £40 per individual email and £150 per bundle of 4 emails.
Individual Supervision costs £66. Group supervision rates can be negotiated separately.
